Benefits of Swimming & Swim Lessons
What are some of the benefits of swimming & swim lessons?
Swimming is a fun, exciting, healthy & low impact activity.
It has many physical benefits of course but it also has its mental health benefits.
Swimming is an activity for all ages & is enjoyed without even knowing that you are getting in a great workout.
How Is Swimming/Swimming Lessons Good For You?
First thing that always comes to mind is FUN. LOL.
When swimming or learning to swim you have a life skill that not everyone can do.
One of the benefits of swimming lessons is its a very low impact sport so the chance of injury is much lower.
I never can say that you can’t get injured but you will be more inclined to being sore from working out & not even knowing it.
Some more benefits of swimming provides you with a cardiovascular workout as well as a full upper body workout, such as arms, shoulders back as well as kicking for lower leg workout.
It has been known to help with asthma also, however if you are asthmatic please check with your doctor before really jumping into any long swim activity.
What Age Should My Child Learn To Swim?
Now no one can tell you what age you need to start your child swimming, but the guidelines for such a thing are a little bit all over.
I am from Australia originally so I looked at the (ASCTA) Australian Swimming Coaches & Teachers Association and they recommend infants can start at 4 months of age.
I will not lie I started my children at 3 months for 1 time out of the week. 3 to 4 months will give enough time for your child to build a strong enough immune system for strength & bond.
At this age infants can get so many benefits of swimming & learn to swim.
When I say swim I do mean learning how to be confident and familiar with the water.
Learning to swim is again a life skill in itself.
Your child will start off by learning how to hold their breath & closing their eyes.
They will learn to kick their feet & can also become so comfortable with water that gliding is easily picked up.
Now I never say never but obviously at this age they will not be swimming by themselves very much. LOL. Either way keep up with it because repetition is key.
