Eating Before Swimming! How Long Should You Wait?
How many times have you stopped your child from eating before swimming?
Or stopped them from getting into the pool when eating before swimming?
How long should we wait until we enter the pool or water after eating?
What will it cause if you eat and enter straight away?
LOL. Here to tell you right now there is no absolute answer to both of those of those questions
Most adults really don’t want to go straight into activity after a meal or light snack, but children on the other hand they love to get straight back to it.
My 2 boys are eating on the go a lot so I always have made sure that vegetables were something that we just ate as a snack and for dinner.
I never made it “DIFFERENT” for them to even not want to eat them.
We make it a normal everyday snack.
With that being said of course foods like carrots, broccoli, fruit ect. will always be a lot lighter on your childs tummy & getting back in the pool or water will be less waiting time.
The consistent time for most children & adults
The normal amount of time for most parents that we have always heard is 30 min wait for food to settle.
I normally stick to that with meals and 10 – 15 mins for a light snack such as chips, fruit, vegetables ect.
The reason most people say to get your child to wait entering the pool after eating is that your child is working their body a little harder than usual while they are in the water.
Moving around can cause them to be sick in the pool area. Also swallowing pool water right after eating isn’t a very pleasant thing to handle sometimes.
Having your child eat lightly before or while they are swimming and having fun is a way to avoid them from getting sick.
Also having them eat the right digestive foods always helps prevent swimming sickness.
Examples: Fruits, Crackers, Vegies ect.
That way the time that they have to stay out of the pool is much shorter and they stop bugging you while you enjoy the sun and fun.
Remember have fun get wet and NEVER LEAVE YOUR CHILD UNATTENDED!!!
