Simone Manuel Gold In Rio 2016
Yeewww!!! Simone Manuel black swimmers matter now ya’ll!!! LOL!!!
It was and is amazing to see U.S.A swimmer Simone Manuel in Rio 2016 get her a GOLD medal tying Canadian Penny Oleksiak in the 100 meter Freestyle.
This just goes to show that the change in thinking of some African American people for swimming has come.
Simone says, “This win hopefully brings hope and change to some of the issues that are going on. My colour just comes with the territory.”
See I for one, being black and white learned at a very early age that swimming is something you just have to do.
Its a life skill not just a competitors sport.
Manuel took her love of swimming all the way to Rio and now it has shown that black people can swim and swim very well.
In Conclusion
A couple of years ago I wrote an article “Black Swimmers, Where Are They?” stating that not all but most predominantly black or minority communities do not have lifetime coaching.
The freedom to commit their lives to the sport, financial support or the access to a training facilities to be able to swim at a competitive level.
I love all sport don’t get me wrong, football, basketball, track & field are in my top 10 sports to play all the time.
I just feel that way to much money and resources are spent on these sports without putting any into a life saving skill for the black community.
If black lives matter then it starts with the activities and things that we do on a day to day bases.
I’m not here to start arguments about what happens in our black communities.
I just want people to notice the black swimmer that learned how to swim and took that to the next level and broke into a sport that is defiantly predominantly “White” sport.
